Olympic Review and Revue Olympique

The publication now known as Olympic Review / Revue Olympique has been published in various formats and under different names since the first edition in 1894. The following describes the development of the journal and explains what you will and will not find when searching Olympic Review and Revue Olympique at the digital archive of the LA84 Foundation.

The publication first appeared in French only in 1894 under the title, Bulletin du Comité International Olympique. In 1896 the series was entitled Les Jeux Olympiques. Publication ceased from 1897 until 1900. Revue Olympique appears as the title in 1901 and was published until 1915 with English articles appearing sporadically.

World War I interrupted the publication of the journal. Nothing was published from 1916-1925.

Publication began again in 1926 under the title Bulletin Officiel du Comité International Olympique and continued until 1944. Both the French and English language articles will be found under this French title. Articles were published in French for the entire span of these years, and articles were published in English for all these years except 1932 and 1935.

From 1938 to 1944, there were actually two journals being published together: Bulletin Officiel du Comité International Olympique and Olympische Rundschau.

No articles in English were published from 1942-1944 and the publication of the journal was suspended entirely in any language in 1945.

The journal resumed publication in 1946 under the title Bulletin du Comité International Olympique. This title was used from 1946 until the middle of 1967. From 1967 until 1969 the title was Lettres d'information, in French and Newsletter in English.

From 1970 to the present the publication has been known as Revue Olympique for the French and Olympic Review for English.
